ENGINEERING GUIDE

BLDC Fan Controller PCB: OEM Selection Checklist

A BLDC fan controller PCB should be selected against its operating conditions, not just its advertised power rating. A structured technical brief reduces prototype iterations and helps ensure the final controller meets user expectations in the field.

Electrical and motor inputs

  • Rated and operating voltage range
  • Motor power, current, pole count, and feedback method
  • Target speed range and low-speed start-up requirement
  • Load characteristics, environment, and expected duty cycle

Functional requirements

Document speed control method, reverse operation, lighting, timer functions, remote or wall control, smart connectivity, fault indicators, and local-control fallback. These requirements drive both hardware I/O and firmware scope.

Reliability and manufacturability

Protection functions should cover abnormal current, voltage, temperature, stall, and operation under expected supply variation. For volume production, specify test points and coverage for ICT, FCT, AOI, functional verification, and aging.

Use the checklist in a project enquiry

Submit the information with a motor data sheet or sample. It enables a faster engineering review and a more accurate production recommendation.

CONTROLLER SELECTION INTENT

Convert the application requirements into an engineering brief before sampling.

A useful brief records motor and load data, supply range, expected speed behavior, interfaces, protection, operating environment, acceptance tests, and volume plan so proposals can be evaluated on the same basis.
